retrospection, presence, and continuation
may we learn, may we leverage, may we liberate, past present & future
i didn’t know what I didn’t know
till I knew it—
and then I blew it—
I looked right through it—
not seeing the wisdom
not seeing the lesson
I had it all
and yet, I still was guessin’
unfocused—
unconnected—
but damn,
i’ve made strides in the direction
of livin’ beyond the let down
and seein’ all that I have found
the guidance within me
the ground holding me
the grace growing me
i didn’t know I knew it,
and now I see by going through it,
and even allowing me to lose it,
that i finally know the truth—
not that i had to hold it tighter,
not that i had to get it right—
but that it was waiting, patient, steady,
until I was ready
to see beyond the holding patterns,
to recognize it was all a lesson,
letting me grow,
letting me flow,
letting me know—
that here, with both heart and head,
I have all I need
to be here, to feel, to see—
to look ahead, full and free,
unsure yet unafraid of all that can be…
hey hey dear ones,
This week, as I sit with the unfolding world, I feel the weight of everything around us—every headline, every struggle, every cry for justice. We are in the midst of days that feel like lifetimes. The pace of pain is relentless, the injustices systemic, and in the face of it all, we are called—now more than ever—to rise.
I am here, with you, in this. There is no bypassing, no detaching, no pretending the heaviness isn’t real. What we are facing is not just spiritual, it’s human, it’s constitutional, it’s life-and-death, and it demands our action—in the world, in our hearts, in the choices we make each day. Yoga and reflection are not just about retreating inward, they are the tools we use to wake up and stay awake—to feel deeply the magnitude of what is happening, and to hold space for clarity, confidence, creativity, and courage as we take action.
I reflect, not to escape, but to see clearly. To look back with eyes that acknowledge everything that has brought me here—both the joy and the trauma—and to understand that we are a continuum of all that came before us, standing here and now in the present moment. Everything we have witnessed, felt, and lived has shaped our capacity to act with greater clarity and intentionality.
As we navigate this moment in history, we must be intentional with how we show up—individually and collectively. Our choices now will create the future we leave behind. The world we are building is in the hands of the decisions we make today. Our practices, our reflections, our presence are not just about healing ourselves—they are about healing the world. We are part of this collective struggle, and the work we do together—with courage, with love, with conviction—can and will shape the future.
In yoga, we are gifted with the first sutra: Atha yoga anushasanam—“Now begins the instruction in yoga.” This moment, right here, right now, is our beginning. It is the invitation to step into the transformative practices that allow us to remain clear and focused, even when the noise of the world threatens to pull us into despair or distraction. We need these practices—not to escape the intensity of the world, but to help us engage more deeply and more powerfully with it. To let yoga remind us that we have the power to create change from within, that we have the ability to tap into the resilience that flows through our bodies, our hearts, and our communities.
As we reflect, we are invited to ask: How can I show up more fully in this moment? How can I use the wisdom and growth I’ve gathered along the way to create a future rooted in justice, compassion, and peace? What can I release—what can we collectively release—that no longer serves the world we wish to see?
Reflection Questions:
In this moment: What injustices or imbalances are present for you right now? How can you tap into your inner wisdom and the practices you’ve cultivated to bring clarity, strength, and courage to take action in these moments?
Looking ahead: What kind of future do you want to create for those coming after us? How can we use the wisdom of our experiences—collectively and individually—to ensure we leave behind a legacy of justice, compassion, and possibility?
Collective action: What small, courageous step can you take today that will ripple out to create the world you want to see? What part of you is still waiting to rise up, and how can you support that inner awakening in service of the collective good?
Monday Mantra:
“I will love all that I am, all that I have been, and all that I am still becoming.
I will love all that we are, all that we have been, and all that we are becoming.
Love is my creator, my catalyst, my courage.
May I be brave enough to use it in all the ways and moments that I can—past, present, and future.”
